EXTERNAL RECIRCULATION IN PRS TYPE TURBINE: EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL RESULTS.

2022

Cavitation is a relevant phenomenon for structural safety and noise level in hydraulic turbines, occurring when water pressure falls below the vapor value at a given temperature. In this case bubbles of vapor grow inside the liquid and move along with it. When the pressure returns above the vapor value the bubble collapses, and the pressure can locally achieve very high values, up to 7000 bars (Kumar & Saini, 2010). Moreover, if the bubble was confined also by the solid wall of a blade, the solid particles suspended in the fluid can be transported by the fluid ones and hit the solid wall at very high velocity, generating erosion. Cavitation is also the source of high frequency noise, ve…

Plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide and hemodynamic function in cardiac disease.

1993

Plasma concentrations of atrial natriuretic peptide were measured in eight patients with cardiac disease but normal resting right atrial pressure, during cardiac catheterization. No patient had clinical evidence of overt heart failure. An increase in peptide concentrations was observed between the aorta or the peripheral vein and the pulmonary artery. A linear relation was found between peripheral vein and pulmonary artery peptide concentration. Mean pulmonary artery and capillary wedge pressure also correlated with the peptide levels. No correlation was observed between mean right atrial pressure and peptide concentration. These findings demonstrate that atrial natriuretic peptide release,…

Study of tantalum hemicarbide (Ta2C) production by low pressure carburizing

2015

Tantalum is a very dense metal (d = 16.6) and has a very high melting temperature of 2996°C. This material is particularly required for crucibles used for pyrochemical applications. Early studies show that a carburizing treatment enhances corrosion resistance from liquid metals. Indeed, the intergranular attack of tantalum is stopped by Ta2C precipitates, which occupy the grain boundary regions. The production of the carbon saturated tantalum with Ta2C precipitates requires a good understanding of tantalum carburizing.A carburizing treatment on tantalum sample causes the emergence of a TaC layer on surface and Ta2C layer just below. A reduction of carbon flow has enabled the study of the fi…

High-pressure theoretical and experimental study of HgWO4

2011

HgWO 4 at ambient pressure is characterized using a combination of ab initio calculations, X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering measurements. The effect of low pressure and temperature on the structural stability is analysed. Extending our ab initio study to the range of higher pressures, a sequence of stable phases up to 30GPa is proposed. © 2011 Taylor & Francis.

Innovative processing techniques for altering the physicochemical properties of wholegrain brown rice (Oryza sativa L.) – opportunities for enhancing…

2018

Rice is a globally important staple consumed by billions of people, and recently there has been considerable interest in promoting the consumption of wholegrain brown rice (WBR) due to its obvious advantages over polished rice in metabolically protective activities. This work highlights the effects of innovative processing technologies on the quality and functional properties of WBR in comparison with traditional approaches; and it is aimed at establishing a quantitative and/or qualitative link between physicochemical changes and high-efficient processing methods. Compared with thermal treatments, applications of innovative nonthermal techniques, such as high hydrostatic pressure (HHP), pul…

Anisotropic and non-heterogeneous continuum percolation in titanium oxynitride thin columnar films

2002

International audience; We report the percolation behaviour of the conductivity of titanium oxynitride films grown by low-pressure metal-organic chemical vapour deposition, composed of TiNxOy mixed with TiO2. The usual DC parameters (t, s and Φc), obtained from the effective media theory equations, are compared to the universal values (s = sun while t < tun because of the film anisotropy). This is the first example of an electrical continuum percolation applied to columnar films with chemically similar conducting and insulating units (non-heterogeneous percolation) whose mixing is based upon the growth temperature during the film growth.

Applicability of the dielectric barrier discharge for helium ash measurements in the divertor region

2016

Abstract Controlled fusion based on the magnetic confinement of the plasma is one of the main aims of the Euro-fusion programme. In the fusion device, the hydrogen isotopes, in nuclear reactions, will produce helium nuclei. The products, as the ash, will be removed from the plasma in the region of the so-called divertor. Controlling the helium to hydrogen ratio in this ‘exhaust gas’ will provide information about the efficiency of the fusion process as well as of the efficiency of the helium removal system. One of the methods to perform this task is to study the properties of the discharge conducted in such exhaust gas. In this paper, the applicability of the dielectric barrier discharge (D…

New preparation of ceramic coatings by low-pressure plasma spray

2018

As an advanced thermal spray technology, low-pressure plasma spray (LPPS) allows obtaining high-quality coatings and can bridge the thickness gap between conventional thermal spray technologies and standard thin film processes. Moreover, LPPS permits to build uniform coatings with various microstructures; deposition takes place not only from liquid splats but also from nano-sized clusters as well as from the vapor phase depending on operational conditions. In order to further improve and develop the LPPS process, this research aims to combine it with the emerging suspension plasma spray and reactive plasma spray processes. It was expected to both provide two novel integrated processes and a…
